Nevada ships murderers out?
Silver State psychiatric hospital bused criminals-to-be across U.S.
Dozens of the mental-health patients bused to California and other states by a psychiatric hospital in Nevada have been arrested for various crimes, including murder, in recent years.
In February, a confused and suicidal patient’s arrival in Sacramento prompted an investigation that revealed Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas had sent about 1,500 psychiatric patients out of state since 2008, and roughly a third of those to California, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The Bee cross-checked more than 1,000 names from Greyhound bus receipts with arrest records from across the country, finding dozens of the patients ultimately committed crimes including assault, attempted murder and murder, drug crimes, sex crimes, theft, vagrancy and vandalism.
