Mysterious explosions
Explosive noises heard in Chico neighborhoods Friday, Saturday nights
Calls were made to the Chico Police Department on Friday and Saturday night, Nov. 23 and 24, reporting loud, explosive noises in two Chico neighborhoods.
The CPD received several calls on Nov. 23 of gunfire occurring in the 1100 block of Neal Dow Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. According to a CPD incident report, the son of one of the callers also “thought he saw a muzzle flash.”
“This area isn’t known for gunshots at all,” one resident of the neighborhood was quoted as telling Action News Now.
The Nov. 24 incident, reported by several people to have occurred at around 11:30 p.m. in southwest Chico, was described as a “loud noise” and “like something exploding,” according to a CPD incident report. More than one caller reported that the explosion shook their house; another reported smoke coming from the area of West Eighth Street and Normal Avenue and seeing a “group of guys running.”
