Motorcyclist killed in collision
The Butte College student succumbed to injuries
Twenty-year-old Butte College student Christopher Vincent Bonifield died the morning of Sunday, Dec. 11, after a night in critical condition at Enloe Medical Center following a motorcycle accident.
Bonifield (pictured) collided with a Volvo at the intersection of Fifth and Walnut streets shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, according to a Chico Police Department press release. The driver of the Volvo—22-year-old Chico State student Jack Levey—and his two passengers were uninjured.
Levey reported to police that the collision occurred as he attempted to turn left from Fifth to Walnut Street, and that Bonifield was traveling about 60 mph in a posted 25-mph zone. Following the collision, Bonifield slid down Fifth Street, knocking down a street lamp and coming to rest underneath a parked vehicle about 150 feet away from the crash site. Police noted that the motorcycle was “fully obliterated,” spreading debris in an approximate 100-yard radius.
Police do not suspect alcohol played a role in the accident.
