Mayor censured … again
Council reacts to legal threat by rescinding, readopting measure
Facing the prospect of litigation, the Oroville City Council rescinded and immediately readopted its censure of Mayor Linda Dahlmeier at a special meeting last Friday (July 20).
As reported in the CN&R last week (see “Council vs. mayor,” Newslines), the five-member majority passed a resolution July 10 condemning the mayor’s conduct with staff and the council. A citizen challenged the action, asserting the council violated the Brown Act—California’s open meetings law—by deliberating without required public notice.
With Dahlmeier (pictured) and Councilman Scott Thomson absent, the majority voted unanimously to void the original censure, then unanimously approved an identically worded one. The measure carries no weight beyond a symbolic statement.
