Lyon’s pain
As we report in this issue (see Newslines), the much-delayed construction of the new Downtown Plaza Park is having a painful impact on Lyon Books, the friendly independent bookstore on Fifth Street between Main and Broadway. The store has lost much of its foot traffic due to the construction, and that reportedly has put it in financial jeopardy.
We don’t ordinarily use this space to promote businesses, but this is an extraordinary situation. Because the construction is a city project, all Chicoans bear some responsibility for Lyon’s welfare. Besides, it would be a shame to lose this downtown gem. If you believe in supporting locally owned businesses, and especially locally owned bookstores, drop by.
