Lundberg gets green bouquet
EPA honors rice-farming operation for its energy practices
Speaking of the EPA, it has recognized two organizations for generating clean energy, and one of them is right here in Butte County.
This week, the agency selected Lundberg Family Farms for a 2008 Green Power Leadership Award. Lundberg, which runs its rice operation in Richvale, recently installed a solar array covering an acre; added to its existing array, these panels help Lundberg generate 15 percent of the power used in its administration, storage and processing facilities. The company also purchases renewable-energy credits. In a news release, Lundberg explained that the EPA co-sponsors the awards—recognizing the advancement of green power—in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Center for Resource Solutions.
