Pair survives snowy night in the foothills
A couple were rescued last week by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue unit after being snowbound overnight in Butte Meadows.
At about 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 30, a woman reported her son and his fiancée had been trapped since about 5 p.m. the night before, when their Jeep got stuck in the snow. The caller was in contact with her son via text and was able to provide deputies with the couple’s location. BCSO personnel reached the pair around noon and took them to the Jonesville Snowmobile Park.
According to a BCSO spokeswoman, the couple were equipped with warm clothing, food and water. The BCSO advises all travelers to take similar precautions when visiting the snowy foothills, and to inform others of their itinerary.
