Local farm feeds families

Matthew Martin of Pyramid Farms wants to thank the Chico community for helping the local organic producer help struggling families.

Martin donated all of the proceeds from his sales at a recent Saturday farmers market to Heifer International—an organization that provides livestock to needy families in developing nations.

The nonprofit Heifer’s vision is to end world hunger by providing impoverished families with a sustainable source of food rather than short-term relief.

Locals came out in force to support Pyramid Farms’ effort, buying every single vegetable at its stand and exceeding the fund-raising goal. The result for needy families: 20 flocks of chickens, 20 flocks of geese/ducks, six honeybee hives, four goats, two pigs and a sheep.
