Let it Be … Naked
A pointless affair aimed at the notion that fans wanted to hear a de-Spectorized version of Let It Be and completely ignoring the fact that we already got that with the release of the Anthology series. Sure, the versions of “The Long and Winding Road,” “Across the Universe” and “Let It Be” presented here are slightly different from their counterparts on Anthology, but only “Across” seems to truly gain anything from the remaster. “Don’t Let Me Down” is offered in an infinitely inferior form, with Ringo clearly off of his game on the day of recording. Every other song here is available elsewhere—which only makes this release more pointless. John Lennon once called Let It Be “the shittiest load of badly recorded shit,” and it is now obvious that no amount of turd polishing can fix it.
