Less holiday stuffing
A simple trick for eating less during holiday feasts
Holiday celebrations lend themselves to stuffing—yourself, that is. But here’s a handy trick for feeling fuller and eating less: Drink water before big meals. In a 2010 Virginia Tech study, one group of dieters age 55 or older drank two cups of water before meals, while the other group did not. The water drinkers lost an average of 15 1/2 pounds, while the other group lost an average of 11 pounds. The researchers theorized that drinking water before meals simply leaves one feeling too full for extra helpings of food. The effects are most pronounced in middle-aged and older people.
