Komen VP steps down
Karen Handel resigns following Planned Parenthood controversy
Following Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation‘s controversial decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, the organization’s senior vice president for policy, Karen Handel, resigned from her position on Feb. 7.
Handel (pictured), who opposes abortion, compelled the foundation not to renew aspects of its partnership with Planned Parenthood, which performs abortions in hundreds of clinics throughout the country, according to the Huffington Post. The decision to cut funding was reversed after immediate public and political uproar, including multiple online petitions to get Handel fired.
