Fire captain with ties to Chico arrested on suspicion of child porn
Mark McLeod Wygant, a South Lake Tahoe fire captain and director and trainer for California Emergency Response Training in Chico, was arrested Jan. 29 on suspicion of child pornography. According to a press release from the city of South Lake Tahoe, Wygant, 44, was placed on paid administrative leave pending a criminal investigation.
Wygant (pictured) appeared in federal court on Friday (Jan. 30) in Sacramento. An affidavit from FBI special agent Glenn G. Norling details the investigation, which began when a flash drive containing more than 5,000 images and 50 videos of child pornography was found in a locker in a South Lake Tahoe fire station. The content includes girls estimated to be between 4 and 13 years old, and several videos involve a South Lake Tahoe girl whom Wygant knows personally.
During an FBI interview, Wygant admitted purchasing spy cameras and placing them in the victim’s residence to record her getting out of the shower, and estimated he had around 100 videos of her—the most recent of which was recorded about a month ago.
