Americans increasingly think smoking in public spaces should be banned

Americans are becoming less and less tolerant of smokers lighting up in public spaces. According to a recent Gallup poll, 56 percent of respondents favored banning smoking in public. That’s in stark contrast to 2003, when a minority of those polled (31 percent) wanted to make smoking in public illegal. As far as banning smoking altogether, an overwhelming majority was against that prospect—79 percent say it should remain legal.
