Keep your cool
Simple ways to cut back on the AC drain
About 17 percent of the typical American household’s annual energy bill goes toward cooling costs. The Daily Green offers simple tips for beating the heat without using the AC:
• Open windows at night when the outside air is cool. Air circulation can be greatly increased by strategically placed fans.
• Avoid using stoves and ovens, which can heat up your home. Salads, cold soups, and fruits are good options. If you have to cook, take it outside to the grill.
• A cold shower, a quick dip in a pool or creek, or jumping through the sprinkler can significantly decrease your body temperature.
