Cold weather can be harmful to pets
Most people are aware of the dangers of heat to our four-legged companions, but cold weather can also be dangerous. The American Veterinary Medical Association warns that, even with built-in fur coats, pets are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia, and should be kept indoors on nights when temperatures dip below freezing. Existing health conditions, such as arthritis, can be exacerbated by the cold. Tolerance to cold differs based on pets’ body types, coat length and other factors, so pet owners should ask their vet about specific temperature limits. Many more tips are available at www.avma.org.
