It’s tomato time
Long-awaited local tomatoes are finally for sale
The day is finally here! After a long winter and a late start, local farmers’ markets are finally selling vine-ripened tomatoes. Woohoo! If you’ve purchased some at the supermarket lately, try comparing the produce to locally grown varieties found at any of the markets. Do it. We dare you. Here’s what you’ll find: There’s no comparison. Seriously. If you haven’t eaten a homegrown or locally grown tomato, you’re in for a real treat. Why purchase a product that’s been trucked hundreds of miles to Butte County when you can get something much fresher, riper and better tasting right here in our back yard? Do your taste buds—and area farmers’ pocketbooks—a favor by buying tomatoes locally.
