Is Nestlé backing out of McCloud?
Company plans to build new facility in Sacramento to serve Northern California market
Plans to build a massive bottling plant in the Siskiyou County village of McCloud, which were downsized last year in the face of community opposition, took another turn last week. Nestlé Waters North America announced it intended to build a bottling facility in Sacramento to serve the Northern California region, prompting McCloud residents to wonder whether the company was pulling out of their town altogether.
Stories in Yreka’s Siskiyou Daily News and Fort Jones’ Pioneer Press both suggested the company was reassessing it plans. But in an update Tuesday (July 28) the Daily News reported that, according to Nestlé’s Dave Palais, who’s been spearheading the McCloud project, plans are still going forward. He did say, though, that an ongoing analysis could lead to cancellation of the McCloud project.
