I’ll drink to that
Chico may be known for its penchant for partying, but when Forbes came up with its list of the nation’s Drunkest Cities, Chico didn’t make the cut. Maybe next time the magazine will include smaller towns in its competition (the list of 35 are only large, metropolitan cities). Some surprising entries: Ohio can toast to three alcohol havens and California doesn’t come up until No. 20, with San Francisco-Oakland. Los Angeles ranks 23rd. The magazine ranked each city based on five categories: state laws, number of drinkers, number of heavy drinkers, number of binge drinkers and alcoholism. Here are the top 20:
1. Milwaukee
2. Minneapolis-St. Paul
3. Columbus, Ohio
4. Boston
5. Austin, Texas
6. Chicago
7. Cleveland
8. Pittsburgh
9. (tie) Philadelphia
9. (tie) Providence, R.I.
11. St. Louis
12. San Antonio
13. Seattle
14. Las Vegas
15. Denver/Boulder
16. Cincinnati
17. Kansas City, Mo.
19. Houston
19. Portland, Ore.
20. San Francisco-Oakland
