Horse sense

Joseph Southerland has no formal training beyond a high-school GED, but he loves horses and he loves to paint. He’s working on his first window-painting project, at Diamond W Western Wear on East Second St., where his pastels-on-paper Western-themed work will be displayed later this month as part of a citywide project. For his day job, Southerland trains horses, Horse Whisperer style. He also works with "mentally disrupted" people through Equine Assistance Psychotherapy, a field in which he soon hopes to be certified. The Ninth Annual National Bullriding Championship Finals will be held Sept. 19-20 at the Silver Dollar Fair Grounds.
