Homeless vets need help
VECTORS loses federal grant, running out of funds
Things are looking tough for VECTORS, the veterans’ group that operates the Jerry L. Knight Transitional Living Facility on Rio Lindo Avenue. It recently learned that it had lost its federal emergency shelter grant.
The reasons given for the withdrawal of the grant were minor and incorrect, VECTORS officials stated in a press release, but by that time the funding had been allocated elsewhere.
The result is that the Chico facility, which provides transitional housing for 15 homeless veterans at a time, has little money for paying staff and for expenses. The current staff has continued to work without pay.
VECTORS’ board is preparing to seek funding next year, but in the meantime it’s asking the community for help. Donations can be sent to the facility at 171 Rio Lindo Ave., Chico, CA 95926, or by going online to http://www.firstgiving.com/vectors.
