Hazmat at home

Hazardous-waste material isn’t limited to the industrial setting—in fact, you can probably find hazmat in your house without looking too hard. Thankfully, Butte County offers 13 locations where you can safely and responsibly dispose of hazardous materials, including used medical sharps (accepted only in 1-quart sharps containers). Household hazardous materials include, but aren’t limited to:

• Antifreeze

• Motor oil, gasoline and oil filters

• Pesticides, herbicides and aerosols

• Solvents, bleaches and pool chemicals

• Mercury thermometers and thermostats

• Fluorescent light bulbs and electronic waste
