Haddix has had it
County chief jumps ship to go back to Fresno
First it was Chico schools Superintendent Chet Francisco. Then Chico City Manager Greg Jones. Now it’s Butte County Chief Administrative Officer C. Brian Haddix (pictured) who has quit his leadership job earlier than expected—and earlier than promised in his contract.
County officials announced Monday (Jan. 12) that Haddix would resign effective March 24, after just 17 months in office. His contract—signed in November 2007—is for three years. The reason give was that he wanted to return to Fresno, where his family still lives.
When he arrived in Butte County, Haddix spoke glowingly of the beauty of the area and enthused about getting outdoors and exploring. But for whatever reasons, he never put down roots here. He didn’t buy a house, his wife stayed in Fresno, and he reportedly commuted home on weekends.
The county will initiate a nationwide recruitment to replace him.
