Green TV goes live
Only time will tell whether a new channel devoted to environmental issues will take hold in America’s living rooms.
Cable’s Discovery Channel recently launched Planet Green, which debuted less than a year after the network announced it was working on what would provide viewers with round-the-clock offerings of eco-themed programs.
Rather than loading the channel with a bunch of gloom-and-doom topics, Discovery officials claimed they would allow coverage of a variety of issues, ranging from food and fashion to architecture and technology.
Most of the programs appear light-hearted and easily digestible for the neophyte environmentalist. During Supper Club, for example, Tom Bergeron, host of Dancing With the Stars, spends an evening with other Hollywood folks for a green meal prepared by a celebrity chef.
