G-Unit

Beg for Mercy

The new album from G-Unit may not be exactly what you expect from now-established rapper 50 Cent and company. Wait, I’m mistaken, it’s exactly what you’d expect. Not willing to stretch out into new territory, 50 stays true to the unwritten hip-hop code about making an album with all your friends after you’ve made it big, and the album plays out like an hour-long filibuster on the subject of: money, drugs, “da ’hood,” murder, bad childhood, guns, “hos,” bling, cars etc. Though respectable, this just reinforces the notion of how posse albums always suck. Someone once told me that having déjà vu is a sign that that your life is on the right track. I generally believe this, but in this case I would have to disagree. This album has been written many times before.
