Free Rice

Increase your vocabulary, bone up on basic math, study a new language, or learn about famous painters and their works while helping to feed the world’s hungry by means of Free Rice’s totally addictive, cost-free vocabulary and grammar quizzes. In English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, there are quizzes on the subjects of art, chemistry, geography and math, from beginner to advanced levels. (One can hear the pronunciation of a vocabulary word by clicking on a speaker icon next to it.) For each correct answer, Free Rice donates 20 grains of rice through the UN World Food Program. Free Rice’s Web-game players worldwide have donated enough rice to feed more than 2 million people since the site started up in October, 2007. The site’s FAQ section offers information about such things as who gets the rice—Myanmar refugees in Bangladesh, pregnant and nursing women in Cambodia, and Ugandan school children are among those listed—and what else one can do to help end world hunger.
