Fire chief’s farewell
Steve Brown, chief of the Chico Fire Department since 1995, is hanging up his hard hat—for the most part.
City Manager Dave Burkland announced Brown’s retirement Tuesday (Feb. 26); while it takes effect this weekend, the outgoing chief will stay with CFD on a part-time basis. Brown, 61, also will keep his seat on the state Board of Fire Services, to which the governor recently reappointed him.
The retirement caps a 44-year firefighting career in Butte County, including 10 as the county CalFire’s chief before coming to Chico.
