Fire chief resigns
Shane Lauderdale steps down as leader of Chico Fire Department
Chico Fire Chief Shane Lauderdale is resigning and taking a job with the North County Fire Authority in San Mateo County.
Lauderdale first served as chief in an interim capacity, replacing Keith Carter in April 2014. His leadership often drew praise. Chico City Council members credited his creative approach to community problems—a tight budget and a sweeping reorganization of the department, including the creation of a Community Risk Reduction Division.
In Lauderdale's resignation letter to City Manager Mark Orme, he described the men and women in his department as “the most dedicated and proud fire service professionals you will find anywhere in the country.” His last day is Dec. 30.
