Family killed in Orland

A 19-year-old Orland woman allegedly shot her sister and father to death in a mobile home and then attempted to take her own life.

In the early morning hours Sunday (July 5), police responded to a report of a shooting on Mill Street and found 55-year-old Danny Byers and 16-year-old Jennifer Byers dead inside their trailer. Dusty Byers, the alleged shooter, was found on the property with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. According to an Orland police press release, the shootings were preceded by a “family disturbance.”

Dusty was reportedly taken to Enloe Medical Center for surgery, though hospital spokeswoman Nicole Johansson, citing patient privacy laws, declined to disclose her condition.
