Americans split on government’s role in protection
About half of Americans—48 percent—think the government does too little to protect the environment, according to a recent Gallup poll. Sixteen percent believe the government does too much, and 34 percent believe it’s doing just the right amount. Gallup has been asking the same question since 1992, and the latest numbers are in line with those of the past two years. How Americans feel about environmental protection seems to correlate with their approval of President Obama; since he took office, the percentage of those who say the government does too little has decreased, while the percentage of those who say it does too much has gone up.
