End of an era

Donald P. Leslie (pictured), a colorful Chico figure known by friends and acquaintances as “Captain Don,” died Monday (June 4) at age 69 after a bout with tongue and mouth cancer.
Captain Don was among the last of the old-time circus performers—he swallowed swords, breathed fire and decorated his body to entertain the masses. He was recently featured on the cover of Skin & Ink magazine and was beloved in the tattoo community, in Chico and beyond.
His body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in about three weeks at, appropriately, Gearhead Barber Shop and Tattoo, in Chico.
