Eco-center for kids
Web-savvy young adults interested in issues affecting the planet should check out the mascots of Restoration Resources’ new MySpace page (www.myspace.com/kitandburt). Kit, an endangered San Joaquin fox, and Burt, an endangered burrowing owl, encourage kids to become citizen scientists—people who are committed to helping the natural world.
Simultaneously to setting up an account on the social-networking site, the Rocklin, Calif.-based environmental compliance firm launched Learning Center, a Web-based outreach effort focused on teaching kids about the natural environment. The center contains information on endangered species, recycling, carbon reduction and volunteer opportunities in the Sacramento area. Students interested in pursuing a career in the environmental realm can watch videos of scientists talking about their jobs.
Educators and parents also may want to peruse the site for such things as lesson plans, resource materials and recommendations on books that inspire children to care for the Earth. Check it out at www.restoration-resources.net; click on Learning Center.
