Doolittle feels the heat
The legal heat is being turned up under Rep. John Doolittle (R-Roseville), whose 4th District includes Oroville.
On April 13, FBI agents raided his home in Oakton, Va., looking for records from his wife’s fundraising and events-planning firm. Disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff hired the firm to do fundraising between 2002 and 2004. The agents had a search warrant, which means they’d convinced a judge of the likelihood that a crime or crimes had been committed.
A few days later, Doolittle resigned his position on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. He told the Sacramento Bee, however, that he has no intention of resigning from Congress, intends to run for re-election in 2008 and is the victim of a misguided political probe.
