Don’t tread on wet trails in Bidwell Park
As the rains increase and spring approaches, the city of Chico Park Division is reminding park-goers to check the Bidwell Park Trail & Road Closure Hotline before embarking on adventures there.
The park’s shallow soils, deep slopes and sensitive plants make it vulnerable to erosion and the widening of trails after even small amounts of rain, and the effects worsen when visitors use the park when it’s wet, according to a city press release. After each rain, park staff assesses the soil in different areas with special tools and determines whether the area or trail will remain open.
Equestrian riders, mountain bikers and hikers should call the hotline at 896-7899 or visit www.ci.chico.ca.us. And, as always, pay close attention to posted signs.
