Chico State students vote against funding the oil industry
The initial Chico State Associated Students election results are in and while official verification is still pending, it looks like the advisory measure asking the University Foundation to withdraw investments in fossil-fuel companies was resoundingly approved. Eighty percent of the student voters were in favor of the measure (only 24 percent of the entire student body voted). For more on this, see “Fueling divestment,” Newslines, by Tom Gascoyne.
Other results included the re-election by a margin of about 1,300 votes of current AS President Taylor Herren (pictured). Kory Masen was elected executive vice president, but only by a margin of 242 votes. For more election results, go to www.aschico.com.
