Directors get the boot
Paradise Irrigation District voters successfully recall two board members
After nearly a year of contentious battles between Paradise Irrigation District board members and their constituents, mostly over rate hikes, two of those members were successfully ousted. Through a recall election in January, residents voted overwhelmingly to replace Larry Duncan and Sep Carola.
Duncan is a former Paradise mayor and longtime PID director. His Division 3 seat goes to Anne Rice, who has 24 years in the water industry, both at a treatment plant and in the laboratory. Carola, who was serving as president of the board when recalled, gives up his seat to Marc Sulik, who has worked for 35 years at a wastewater treatment plant.
During a candidates forum in December, Rice promised to waive her salary if elected. She and Sulik both said they supported eliminating health benefits for board directors.
