Direct Curran …
Hokey smokes! One listen to Dallas “jump blues” sensation, Nick Curran, and you’ll swear you were listening to some obscure ‘50s R&B great. We spun his disc, Nitelife Boogie (on Texas Jamboree Records), here at the Review, and we couldn’t believe our ears (see the CD review in this issue)! With its New Orleans’ rhythms and buzzing horn section, some of the CD’s cuts sound almost like Fats Domino out-takes—they’re that good. Anyway, the best news is Nick Curran and his band, the Nitelifes, hit Duffy’s Tavern, 337 Main St., Tuesday, July 17. Admission is bound to be "cheap." So, what’re you waiting for?
