Deputy charged in beating
Yuba County man faces June 10 court trial
The Yuba County sheriff’s deputy accused of beating a man unconscious on St. Patrick’s Day outside a restaurant in downtown Chico will face three felony charges in Butte County Superior Court on June 10.
Nelson Magana allegedly beat the man, stomping on his head after he’d lost consciousness, near the restroom that serves Burgers & Brew and Crush restaurants.
Magana, who is out on $150,000 bail, has pleaded not guilty to charges of battery with serious bodily injury, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. The case is scheduled to be heard by Judge Stephen Benson.
