Voters leaning toward candidate with best chance of beating Donald Trump

With the 2020 presidential election less than one year away, Democrats are prioritizing strategy over ideology. The latest Gallup survey shows that 60 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning Independents favor the party nominating a candidate with the best chances of beating Donald Trump, versus 36 percent who would prefer a candidate that aligns with them on most issues. With that in mind, 50 percent of those surveyed would choose a moderate Democrat for the nomination, 33 percent a liberal, and 17 percent a conservative Democrat.
