Death on the street

A homeless woman was found dead in a Chico waterway last week, and police say her cause of death is under investigation.

Chico police officers and firefighters responded at about 2:20 p.m. Friday (Nov. 29) to a report of a body in Lindo Channel near Chico Nut Co. on The Esplanade, police said. The deceased woman—whose name and age had not yet been released as of Wednesday (Dec. 4)—was found in an area where homeless encampments are common.

There were no signs of foul play, police said, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the woman’s cause of death.
