University system prepares for massive slashes
California State University administrators have begun meeting with union leaders to discuss how to absorb a proposed $584 million budget reduction in 2009-10. The cut represents 16 to 20 percent of the CSU system’s general-fund allocation.
Chancellor Charles Reed has stated that all options need to be on the table, including furloughs. The guiding decision behind any budget-reduction decisions, he has said, will be “to serve as many students as possible without sacrificing quality and to preserve as many jobs as possible.”
