Criminal activity
Chico crime stats are in for 2007, and they show the overall crime rate has dropped over the previous year. The alarming thing, however, is that while auto thefts have continually gone down, assaults and homicides have gone up. Rapes also remain high when compared with the national average. It’s also interesting to note that while most of the crimes still occur near Chico State, there was more spread last year than in previous years. Among alcohol-related arrests in 2007, 1,158 were for being drunk in public, and 668 were for misdemeanor DUI. Burglaries, which have been on everyone’s mind since the winter surge, dipped in 2007 but hit a high for the month of January 2008 with 106. Here are last year’s stats, compared with those from 2006, along with what percentage of the total each crime represents.
