Conscious print shop
Chico State has become one of the first universities in the nation to earn a special certification showing its print products come from responsibly managed forests.
Staff at University Printing Services started discussing the possibility last September during a meeting in which sustainability was a topic. Awarded by Scientific Certification Systems, a third-party certifier, the Forest Stewardship Council certification allows Chico State to use the FSC trademark on products that meet strict environmental requirements.
Other green efforts employed by the department include the use of vegetable-based inks for certain types of printing and recycled or FSC-certified paper and envelopes made from 100 percent post-consumer waste.
