New radio station KHHZ 97.7 FM, “Radio México, La Gran X,” has joined with KPAY, KMXI and KHSL in the family of local stations owned by Clear Channel Communications. The station will have CNN news in Spanish, along with local news and promotions. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the Radio México addition,” stated Dino Corbin, station manager.

Retail

House 2 Home, the rebirth of what used to be Home Base, held its grand opening July 21 at 2101 Whitman Ave. The 100,000-square-foot “Incredible Home Decorating Superstore” is a softer version of the former do-it-yourself haven, with selections ranging from bedding to candles to patio furniture. Now, states a press release, the focus is on the time-constrained “buy-it-yourself” and “do-it-for-me” customers.

Grant

Glenn Communities Working Together (GCWT) has received a grant that will allow the group to develop plans to improve the health and well-being of Glenn County residents. The basis of the group is to help improve the quality of life for people living in Glenn County. The grant was awarded by the California Endowment, a private foundation since 1996.

“Glenn Communities Working Together is proof positive that citizens in Glenn County are clearly focused on enhancing the quality of life for our community members. This is the first step toward improving the accessibility and delivery of health care in Glenn County,” stated Denny Bungarz, member of the Glenn County Board of Supervisors and GCWT, in a press release.

Organizations

The Chico Optimist Club has reached it required membership of 25 members. Though the club isn’t official yet, members are eager to begin participating in community events. They meet twice a month, on the second and fourth Thursdays, at the IHOP restaurant. The mission of the club is to foster an optimistic way of life and dedicate time to serving youth, community and others around them.

The members of the Bangor Art Association have decided to change its name to Sierra Foothills Art Association. This name better fits the group, since most of the memberships come from Chico and the North San Juan areas.
