Clouds and canals …

After almost 30 years of instructing art history at Chico State University, Dolores Mitchell finally has enough breathing space to create her own artistic works. Landscapes: Realities & Inventions is currently on display at the Shadetree Restaurant, located at 817 Main St. in downtown Chico. Pictured is the oil painting “Venice, Storm Clearing.” In this piece as in many others in this show, Mitchell seems to prefer placing vibrant colors in often unexpected places, resulting in a sort of surprise for the viewer. Many of these works are available for purchase. Landscapes remains on the walls through Thursday, Sept. 5. Regular viewing hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
