Clothesline ban washed up?
Canadian environmentalists are calling upon politicians to repeal a ban on clotheslines that affects many Ontario communities.
Initially enacted to keep new developments aesthetically pleasing, the prohibition on air-dried laundry is outdated and goes against the province’s stance on energy conservation, say opponents. The clothesline debate is not unique to that province; it’s reportedly also been an issue in Nova Scotia and British Columbia.
Ontario politicians passed legislation several years ago that would allow for a lift of the ban, yet have not put it into practice. Premier Dalton McGuinty has been tight-lipped about the issue but told the Toronto Sun the issue is under consideration.
