Clear the medicine cabinet

Annual dumping of prescription drugs set for this weekend

If you have unused, unwanted or expired prescriptions in your medicine cabinet, bring them to Drop the Drugs this weekend—you’ll be helping keep pills out of the wrong hands as well as the local landfill and sewer system.

The drug drop-off is a collaboration between Enloe Medical Center, Butte County Sheriff’s Office and the county Department of Public Works, and will be held at the corner of Cohasset Road and Rio Lindo Avenue on Saturday (May 16) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Here’s the procedure: Remove any pills or capsules you don’t want or need from prescription containers and place them in sealed bags. Drop the Drugs won’t accept intravenous solutions, needles or ointments. For more on the disposal of household hazardous waste, go to buttecounty.net/recyclebutte.

“People do call us throughout the year asking if and when this event will take place,” said Christina Chavira, Enloe spokeswoman. “The number of pounds that come in every year is pretty amazing.”
