University of Colorado scraps cafeteria trays, hands out sacks
Students at the University of Colorado may soon have their hands full, since the campus’ cafeteria is looking into scrapping the use of trays.
But the payoff for juggling that sandwich, banana and pudding cup is helping the school save water, energy and food waste, reported the Colorado Daily. Georgia Tech and the University of Florida already have taken the measure and estimate significant water savings: 3,000 gallons daily and 470,000 gallons yearly.
Colorado’s campus also has made efforts to curb the use of single-use plastic bags (600,000 were used in the dining halls there last year) by purchasing a ChicoBag for all freshmen this year.
