Chico PD struts its stuff

The Bomb Squad, other departments show off, meet the community

SHOWING OFF <br> Rob Sheridan explains how the Chico Police Department’s bomb-defusing robot works. In the background is a suit Bomb Squad members wear when working with explosives. It weighs about 80 pounds, said Sheridan, who is part of the squad. This was just one of the many arms of the CPD—including the SWAT Team, Animal Control and K-9 and equestrian units—that participated in the National Night Out, held Tuesday at 5:30 in and around the Chico City Plaza. The evening is meant to bring police officers and community members together to help prevent crime. As interim Chief Mike Maloney said during the opening ceremony, “The police can’t do it all.”
