Chico crime on the rise
Police statistics show an overall 7.4 percent increase
Last week, the Chico Police Department released statistics showing that the city experienced an overall 7.4 percent increase in crime in 2012 as compared to 2011, the reversal of a three-year trend during which overall crime actually decreased. Crimes against persons (homicide, rape, robbery, assault) were up due mostly to a rise in assaults, although homicides were down dramatically. Crimes against property (burglary, larceny, auto theft) were up due to a sharp increase in burglaries (53 percent), while larceny and auto thefts were down. Here are the numbers:
