Chico crime on the rise

Recent statistics released from the Chico Police Department show a marked increase in crime—particularly violent crimes, which include homicide, rape, aggravated assault and robbery—in 2017 over the previous year. In fact, violent crimes went up 42 percent in that time period. In perspective, total crimes increased just 10 percent. This chart, provided by CPD, shows violent crimes over a longer period of time, with bookend violent years. Of the four homicides reported in 2017, two involved police officers discharging their weapons.
